The Gold Tone should have a soundpost construction (they may have models with the soundwell but not for sure which ones), and a Beard cone and spider.

I tried the ones you mention, and even though I was anxious to buy a "dobro" my wallet stayed in my pocket. I played the Gold Tone PBR-CA, used so I don't know how old it is, and decision was made in 5 minutes. Night and day difference in tone and it just spoke to me.
